Sri Lanka is also a stakeholder in protecting the wetland environment, which is considered very vital biologically, ecologically, economically, in the world. Due to the prevailing threats to the wetland environment, these wet lands are being destroyed in a big scale. Protecting and conserving these wetlands, which do a great job for the bio-system and the environment, is a task that we must fulfill. Therefore, these competitions are held with the aim of developing positive attitudes towards wetland conservation through educating school students and the community about the value of wetlands.
