Calling for Expression of Interest

We invite expression of interest form interested individuals to submit their CVs On or before 15th November 2017. The Details are mentioned below;

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The main responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Undertake an assessment of the existing situation with regard to elephants already released to the existing EHG in Horowpathana for lessons to be learned to improve the propsed design of the new EHG in Lunugamwehera.
  • Based on the above assessment, provide a conceptual design of the proposed EHG to be constructed in Lunugamwehera.
  • Assist the DWC/ESCAMP engineering/technical staff in the detailed engineering design of the proposed EHG, including providing basic requirements for the elephants to live as free ranging animals under natural wilderness conditions including creating suitable habitats for food and water.
  • Supervise and monitor the construction of the proposed EHG on a weekly basis during the construction period.
  • Develop a Management Plan for the EHG, including maintenance of the EHG for a high density of elephants. This includes a habitat management section within the overall Management Plan.
  • Develop a Monitoring Plan for monitoring the released problem elephants. Initiate a study of the behavior of the released elephants, including the habitat utilization pattern.
  • Monitor and document the behavior and welfare of the elephants released into the EHG.
  • Explore the possibility of rehabilitation and return of the problem elephants as fully free ranging elephants back to the wild.
  • Prepare a quarterly progress report for the Director General, Department of Wildlife Conservation.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • A Masters Degree or equivalent in Wildlife Conservation, Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Zoology, or related field and at least 10 years experience in working on issues related to wildlife conservation, elephant conservation and human elephant conflict management
  • At least 10 years experience working on elephant conservation and management, as well as Human elephant conflict management issues
  • At least 3 years proven experience of dealing with problem elephant management and control issues, especially in the field level
  • Experience of working on a problem elephant holding facility  will be a distinct advantage.
